Crystal is a born and bred New Mexican. Originally from Las Cruces, NM, she has been living in Albuquerque, NM since 2015. Crystal has been an Addictions Counselor for over 20 years and has focused on working with substance use, mental health, unhoused individuals, and those with criminal justice records. Currently working as the Threat Assessment Team and CARE Coordinator with UNM, she is a Department of Homeland Security Master Trainer in Threat Assessment.

Asha Villafañe Hernández

Asha Villafañe Hernández has been working with the Community Schools strategy since 2007 and as a bilingual community organizer since 2003. Through this transformative, asset-based journey in the U.S. and México, she has learned that our communities will be whole and healed when everyone has a seat at the table. She has been honored to serve New Mexico through local, regional, and statewide administrative and support roles, including serving as a Community Schools Coordinator and District Family Engagement Liaison. She currently leads the statewide technical assistance and professional development team supporting 76 granted Community Schools as an employee of Cooperative Educational Services (CES), in support of the New Mexico Public Education Department’s Community Schools and Extended Learning Bureau. She holds a master’s degree from the University of New Mexico, a teaching license in Art Education and TESOL, and is currently ABD in a doctoral program in Educational Leadership. She is a long-time resident of Albuquerque’s International District and beautiful Sunland Park, New Mexico, and has a deep love for the communities of our state.
